Guided Walking Tours

The Museum conducts guided walking tours on the THIRD Saturday of each month (Except during May) from April to October. The cost is $10 per person, children under 10 are free with a paying adult. The tours last approximately one hour. There are a variety of tours available. Tours require reservations since space is limited to ensure a unique and educational experience for participants. We request that reservations be final by noon the preceding day. Reservations can be made by calling the Museum during our regular hours, Thursday through Saturday, from noon until 4 pm. or by sending an email titled "Walking Tour Reservations" to curator@transylvaniaheritage.org

Special tours can be arranged for groups of four or more with a minimum of two weeks’ notice.

PLEASE NOTE:  In Celebration of Historic Preservation Month, May tours are held on Friday afternoons and are free!

 

2023 Walking Tour Schedule:

April 8: Historic Probart Street ($10 per person)

Discover the link between some of the founding fathers and the town's growth and economy and learn the history of Brevard's oldest structure, the Red House Inn. Departs from the Transylvania Heritage Museum at 1:00 pm.

May 5: Silvermont and Historic East Main (Free)

Stroll through Brevard's Historic East Main Street Extension and learn about the Silversteens and Silvermont. Departs from the Silvermont Gazebo at 1:00 pm.

May 12:  Behind the Scenes East Main (Free)

Explore Brevard and learn about St. Philips, the Inn at Brevard, and early families and architecture of East Main. Departs from Saint Philips Episcopal Church at 1:00 pm.

May 26:  Town of Rosman  (Free)

An established community by the turn of the 19th century, the Town of Rosman has a fascinating history, Come learn about the Queen City of Transylvania. Departs from the Rosman Town Hall at 1:00 pm.

June 17: Behind the Scenes West Main ($10 per person)

Explore Brevard and learn about the early families and architecture of West Mains from a different perspective while walking behind buildings and through alleyways. Departs from the Transylvania Heritage Museum at 1:00 pm.

July 15: Meet the Founding Fathers ($10 per person)

Learn about the people behind the formation of the County and the establishment of the City of Brevard by visiting several namesakes throughout the City. Departs from the Transylvania Heritage Museum at 10:30 am.

October 28:  Tell me an Appalachian Ghost Story ($10 per person/children free with paying adult)

Learn about the Sunbonnet Girl, the Ghost of Shoal Creek, and other chilling tales of spirits and spooks as you travel along the dimly lit streets of Brevard. Dress warmly! Tours depart the Museum at 4:30 & 6:00 pm.
